Molly's Folly

Like most people, Molly finds it easy to use her smart phone to rescue her from boredom and socially awkward moments. It wasn’t always like that though. There was a time when she thrived on regular interactions with people, always managing to navigate through the conversational minefields with grace. But that part of her personality slowly died as she became captive to the Youtube algorithm.

Where Molly is on the ideological spectrum is really irrelevant. The algorithm knows what she searches for and feeds her more of it. It’s hard to say exactly when she lost her reasoning skills but along the way she became an evangelist for ideas that weren’t her own. And therein lies the problem.

As for your own life, do you know why you believe as you do? Are you a critical thinker or have you become docile enough to trust other people’s opinions? Think long and hard about this because AI is becoming an integral part of our lives and those who interact with it on a personal level could get ensnared if they’re not careful. Do your best to avoid Molly’s folly by learning to use AI for its benefits without opening the door to a potentially dark situation.
